The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that mechanical engineering employment will grow at 4% annually between 2018 and 2028. The percentages are far higher for these four fields:


Mechanical engineers are tasked with designing sophisticated device architectures that imitate the human body’s musculoskeletal design. These devices are typically used for biomechatronics, which is a form of bioengineering that merges the body and machine.

Mechanical engineering is a diverse field that involves designing and manufacturing machines and researching how mechanical systems interact with human beings. Mechanical engineers can do everything from designing prosthetic limbs to studying the military’s interaction with technology.
